Shriya Saran is an Indian Film actor. She had acted in several music videos and attended acting studio simultaneously. She had her debut in 2001 in Ishtam. She attracted the Telugu audience with her role as Bhanu in Santhosham in 2002 that gave her first hit. She did many Telugu films thereof while making her entry in Bollywood and the Tamil Film Industry. Shriya gained national popularity after starring opposite Tamil Super Star Rajnikanth in Sivaji: The Boss. Shriya later on signed several Bollywood, Kollywood and a Hollywood project.
Born in Dehradun to Pushpendra and Neeraja Saran, Shriya completed her schooling from Delhi Public School in Haridwar and finished her college with a BA degree from Lady Shree Ram College, Delhi University.
Shriya was offered her first chance to face the camera while she was in the second year of her college. It was Reenu Nathan’s music video titled Tirakthi Kyon Hawa. The video popularized her and Ramoji Films offered her the main role in Ishtam, a Telugu film. Even before the release of Ishtam, Shriya bagged Santhosham, Nuvve Nuvve, Tagore and Chennakeshava Reddy, all mega budget films opposite top actors.
Shriya debuted in the Tamil film Industry with Enakku 20 Unakku 18 along with Telugu actor Tarun and Trisha. The film was declared average at the box office but the music by A R Rahman was a big hit. Anther Tamil film Mazhai opposite Jayram Ravi fared well at the box office. Her first hit film in Tamil was Thiruvilayadal Arambam opposite Dhanush. She appeared alongside the south star Vijay in the film Azhagiya Tamil Magan. She played the role of Subbulakshmi opposite Vikram in the blockbuster Kanthaswamy. Her film Kutty with Dhanush was a hit at box office. Shriya is also filming opposite Kamal Hassan for the delayed film Marmayogi.
Shriya’s debut Hindi film was Tujhe Meri Kasam in which she starred alongside Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza. The filmed was a disaster at box office. Then, she did the film, Thoda Tum Badlo Thoda Hum opposite Arya Babbar, which again failed. Her movie with Aftab Shivdasani, Shukriya: Till Death Do Us Apart was a hit at box office but failed to give Shriya any attention. Shriya did her comeback in Awaarapan with Emraan Hashmi in the lead, which was a success at the box office. In the year 2008, she acted alongside Vivek Oberoi and Zayed Khan in Mission Istanbul, which was declared a hit.
Shriya took part in Netru, Indru, Naalai, a stage show by Mani Ratnam to raise funds for an organization named The Banyan that works to rehabilitate homeless women who suffer from mental illness. She had walked the fashion ramp at the International Fashion Week at Chennai for designer Neeta Lulla. In the year 2002, Shriya acted with Tamil superstar Vijay in an advertisement of the brand Coca-Cola. The pair went on to star together in the 2007 film Azhagiya Tamil Magan. Shriya is the brand ambassador of ‘celebrity soap’ Lux and for ‘anti-dandruff shampoo Head & Shoulders’. She was signed as the brand ambassador for the Brooke Bond Taj Mahal Tea along with Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan. Recently, Shriya has denied doing any soft drinks advertisements coming her way.
